Participants are reminded to bring cycling attire consistent with the cooler temperatures at altitude and to bring sufficient water and food. Refueling options are somewhat limited.

Following the completion of Stage Three, participants are invited to enjoy dejeuner at the Tuggles Gap restaurant.

Travel time is one hour. Take 8 from Christiansburg toward Floyd. Continue on 8 through the Town of Floyd and to the intersection with the Parkway. The Tuggles Gap Restaurant and Motel will be on your left, immediately after you pass under the Parkway. Park under the trees away from the area around the restaurant.

NRVBA Ride Leaders Review:
Stage Three Wrap-Up

Stage Three was completed on the Parkway on a windy and humid day. After a neutral start, the peloton began to climb; a reoccurring theme for the day.

The first intermediate sprint was won by Lee Ferguson who caught the leaders by surprise and was able to hang on for the points.

The climb to the top of Ground Hog Mountain was a war of attrition with Dave Harrell setting a blistering cadence that separated the contenders from pretenders.

The final intermediate sprint was a duel between Lee F. and Dale K. with Dale K. slipping by for the points.

The final climb, the Cotes de Morrisette, once again showcased the blistering cadence and tempo of Dave H. Of special note was Jen F who claimed third to the top of the mountain and took the overall lead in the Women’s Climbing Classification.

The winners for Stage Three were:
Green Jersey – Lee Ferguson
Mountain Jersey – Dave Harrell
Yellow Jersey – Michael Koernan

Additional Classifications:
Best Young (looking) Classification – Beth Kipp
Dirtiest Bike Classification – Jerry Ford

Thanks for everyone who attended and we hope to see everyone next week for the concluding Stage of the Inaugural Tour de New River Valley.
