Le Tour de New River Valley - Stage Four

Like every Saturday, work interferes while the Tour continues! The NRVBA in association with the avid cyclists here in the Southwestern corridor of Virginia is continuing with it’s multi-stage series mimicking the Le Tour De France (for fun). Entering Stage Four comes this weekend’s mountain course! Read on for details …

Rider sign-in: 08:30
Neutral roll out: 08:45

Stage Four, the concluding stage of the Inaugural Tour de New River Valley, begins and ends in the Ville de Newport. Stage Four will be a course of approximately 90 or 61 km. Today’s stage will separate the women from the girls, the men from the boys, and the climbers from everyone. The route follows rolling terrain through Giles and Craig County before climbing the Category Three side of the Cotes de Johns Creek. A steep descent is followed by a rolling and beautiful ride to 311, the turnaround point. The course retraces the route, climbing the Category One side of the Cotes de Johns Creek before a downhill finish in Newport. Two intermediate sprints will be located at the Giles/Craig County line. Participants are reminded to bring sufficient water and food. Refueling options are severly limited.

Please meet at the Newport Ruritan Park located just beyond the Newport Recreation Center. For those opting for the shorter option, they may park in the parking lot of the Simmonsville Volunteer Fire Department, located on the left side of 42, just beyond the Johns Creek Road (SR 658) approximately 10 miles beyond Newport.

Following the completion of Stage Four, participants are invited to enjoy dejeuner at Ceritanos restaurant in Blacksburg, famous for their wood fired pizzas.

THIS IS NOT A RACE. THERE WILL BE NUMEROUS RE-GROUP POINTS AND THE SPRINT POINTS/MOUNTAIN POINTS WILL ONLY BE AWARDED TO RIDERS PARTICIPATING IN THE RE-GROUP POINTS. SAFETY IS A MUST AND BUNCH SPRINTS OR CROSSING OF YELLOW LINES/CENTER OF THE ROAD IS FORBIDDEN. THIS IS FOR FUN ONLY (BRAGGING RIGHTS).
